Y es que con 60 años transcurridos desde entonces, aún son muchas las familias en nuestro país que no pueden afrontar el elevado gasto que supone la factura de la climatización del hogar, especialmente en aquellas viviendas con menor índice de eficiencia energética. Porque la pobreza energética es un fenómeno que afecta a todos los países de la Unión Europea.

Según los datos de Eurostat, en el año 2012, 54 millones de ciudadanos europeos vivían en hogares en los que resultaba imposible mantener una temperatura adecuada durante los meses de invierno. En 2014, un estudio realizado en España titulado “Pobreza Energética en España. Análisis de Tendencias”  estimaba que en 2012 un 17% de los hogares españoles debían destinar más del 10% de sus ingresos anuales al pago de la factura energética de sus viviendas. España, se situaba por entonces, como el cuarto país con mayor número de ciudadanos que se declaraban incapaces de mantener su vivienda en condiciones de confort térmico. Y esto teniendo una climatología mucho más templada que en otros países de la Unión Europea.

Hay que tener en cuenta el precio de la energía y renta de las familias, y es que desde 2008 los consumidores domésticos de energía han venido padeciendo un aumento significativo de los precios tanto de la electricidad como del gas. Este incremento, unido a la gran crisis económica y social que provocó el incremento del número de personas en situación de desempleo. Y se constató que uno de cada tres hogares con sus miembros en situación de desempleo estaba destinando gastos desproporcionados al pago de las facturas de la energía doméstica.

Y es que tanto el precio de la energía como la renta de las familias son elementos claves para analizar la evolución de la pobreza energética a corto plazo pero la eficiencia energética de los edificios, es el factor fundamental y estructural para frenar su evolución. Las viviendas con un menor índice de eficiencia energética son más vulnerables a sufrir la pobreza energética por el peso que supone el gasto en climatización para las familias. Mediante la rehabilitación energética de los edificios se consigue reducir la demanda de energía, se mejora la eficiencia energética de sus instalaciones de climatización, se optimiza la gestión y consumos de energía… y además, con la incorporación de fuentes renovables, se consiguen enormes beneficios ambientales que redundan en un descenso en las emisiones de gases efecto invernadero.
